10 Year Anniversary

Dear friends and patrons,

Almost to the day, ten years ago, I walked off a plane from Hamburg, Germany to start a new position as Director of the Hart Gallery in Palm Desert, the flagship location of my aunt Eva Hart’s galleries.

The announcement of this anniversary is all the more meaningful as my wife Kaarina and I just had a baby girl this summer and with that, the next generation of our art family is now American.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the support, trust and loyalty for which I am incredibly grateful. I promise you that we will continue to bring you the best the art world has to offer, to qualify each artist and hold them to the highest standards so that you can feel confident about the quality of each and every work we showcase. I hope that you will continue to join us for our events, visit the exhibitions or art shows and study our catalogs. With your help we will continue to grow as a cultural connection and launching-pad for some of the most promising artists as well as a resource for established works of art.

For this coming year we have prepared many outstanding events and exhibitions and we will begin with the Season Opening on Saturday after Thanksgiving. It will be an evening to remember and an event you don’t want to miss.

After doubling our space on El Paseo during our expansion last summer, we were able to sign several new artists and we have selected some wonderful new works by our most popular artists for the gallery.

While we expanded our space locally, we have also expanded our presence nationally and after very successful art fair participations in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and San Francisco I am proud to announce that we have been selected to show at Red Dot Art Fair in Miami during the Art Basel Week, which is an important new step for our gallery and our participating artists.

Finally, because we anticipate a very busy season, we have added a new member to our staff and in addition to that, I have asked Eva to come out of retirement and help us on a more regular schedule. That way, our patrons will be well looked after at any time, even if I take a day off once in a while to enjoy my new family.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Warm regards,

Christian Hohmann

Gallery Team

With the new addition of baby girl Elli Kristina to the Hohmann family, we have also made some very important additions to our gallery team. Here are the people behind Christian Hohmann Fine Art:

CHRISTIAN HOHMANN – Studied art history and economy, published and sold Fine Prints at the age of 19 and opened his first art gallery with 21 to follow in his parents footsteps. After a successful run in Hamburg and later also in Berlin, Germany he moved to the United States to run the Hart Gallery in Palm Desert on El Paseo, where he opened his own gallery in 2009 after Eva Hart, his aunt, retired from the art business (until now).

EVA HART – Opened the first Hart Gallery in 1999 in Carmel and soon after in Chicago and Palm Desert. With her experience and the longstanding relationships with art collectors around the world, we are grateful to be able to get her (at least part time) out of retirement to support us with our VIP clients.

JANET HANSON – We feel very fortunate to have enticed Janet to join our team. Her expertise in marketing, luxury retail management and client development are the qualities that are necessary to continue our growth and offer our clients the care that they deserve.

JOSH HEINZ – In his little spare time he is a devoted musician and a father who supports a noble cause, the fight against Autism, by organizing an annual benefit concert. Ask him about it and please support it! In the gallery he is responsible that everything you see is perfectly displayed and that everything you don’t see works smoothly.

ADRIENNE NORTON LUNA – An aspiring graphic designer, she is the person behind web marketing, layouting and designing all the beautiful material you get from us.

WERNER & URSULA HOHMANN – The founders of the gallery in 1976 and mum and dad to Christian, these two are the visionaries behind CHFA and with almost 40 years in the art business they are rare examples of art dealers and gallerists with solid values and views on art and the art business. They are our backbone of experience, vision and ethics. Their passion has inspired thousands of art collectors and us as well.

Grand Opening Celebration

After a soft opening in October Christian Hohmann Fine Art officially opened doors with a Grand Opening Celebration last Saturday, November 28th. Over 350 invited guests came to see the new quarters of ex-Hart Gallery director Hohmann. Among the guests were German actor Udo Kier, director of the Palm Springs Art Museum Steven Nash and his wife Carol, actor John Callahan with Kim Hayden, Palm Springs Life Magazine editor Steven Biller and the magazine’s fashion expert Susan Stein, public art coordinator of the city of Palm Desert Deborah Schwartz, Desert Magazine editor Carla Breer Howard, singer Sharon Di Haworth, TV host Gloria Greer with daughter Ann Greer, GM of the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, artist Neil Nagy, artist/writer Kimberly Nichols, CBS2 reporter Natalie Brand, GM of the Parker Hotel Thomas Meding and wife Alisa, Eva and Ed Hart, the owners of The Hart Gallery that Christian used to run as well as many collectors and patrons.

With champagne and appetizers the guests celebrated and viewed the work of late artist David Schneuer (1905-1988) who lived and worked in Paris and Munich in the 1920s and 30s and who escaped from Nazi Germany in 1933 and settled in Tel Aviv. Hohmann is showing several original paintings and works on paper that were just recently released by the estate. This very collectable artist is currently shown at the Museum de Montparnasse in Paris (see separate news). If you missed the opening, you can still see the exhibition during art walk on Thursday, December 3rd from 5-9pm through December 12th 2009.

In the Tradition of the Hart Gallery

Christian Hohmann, formerly the Director of The Hart Gallery, opens his own new gallery on El Paseo, “Christian Hohmann Fine Art”.

“When one door closes another one opens” – is the old saying that can be taken literally in this case.   When Eva and Ed Hart decided to retire and to close the Hart Gallery this last July,  it was with the understanding that their nephew, Christian Hohmann, who opened and ran their gallery for the last 7 years, would carry on their legacy by taking over the representation of their artists in his own new gallery.  That way, the clients and patrons of the Hart Gallery would still be able to find all their favorite artists on El Paseo as well as an ongoing presentation of new and contemporary works of art from all over the world.

The new gallery will be located at 73-660 El Paseo, between Edenhurst Gallery and Leeds&Son Jewelry on the north side of El Paseo.  The new location provides a beautiful exhibition space and will feature an exclusive selection of well known and popular contemporary artists as well as precious modern classics.

A series of events and lectures is planned for the 2009/2010 season. Please stay tuned for more information here in the NEWS section of Christian Hohmann Fine Art.
